Dr. Stough insists that not all men experiencing hair loss are candidates for hair transplants,
but those who are suitable and receive transplants can expect wonderful results. His technique
emphasizes long-term results and completely natural hairlines using the Feathering Zone Technique.
Low hairlines and grafts transplanted in the crown give excellent short-term results, however long-term
problems, secondary to further hair loss, appear overtime. "Being conservative in my approach and
technique does not alter my ability to create excellent results," says Dr. Stough.
Feather Zone Technique
Dr. Stough's Feathering Zone Technique is the most natural approach for creating an undetectable frontal hairline. By
inserting single hair follicular units in a deliberately irregular pattern, he creates a zone for the
front hairline instead of an abrupt "line" of hair grafts.
Almost every transplant surgeon today utilizes small grafts, mini-grafts, follicular unit grafts, and
mega-sessions. Each make claims touting the benefit of their technique. How can you know who really has the experience?
In May of 1993, Dr. Stough made a scientific presentation to the International Society of Hair Restoration Surgery titled, "Single Hair Grafting - Mother
Nature's Choice." This medical lecture presented three years of research showing the results of transplanting exclusively
single-hair grafts in select individuals. To our knowledge, this was the first formal presentation ever made on the exclusive
use of single-hair grafts. Our experience in this area is second to none.
Dr. Stough gives all patients he consults with an honest evaluation of their loss and anticipated long-term result from a hair
transplant procedure.
Who are Dr. Stough's Patients?
Dr. Stough uses the following criteria for patient selection:
1) Well-defined baldness in the frontal 1/3 of the scalp.
2) Dense donor area.
3) Complimentary hair to skin color match.
4) Slight curl or wave in the texture of the hair.
5) Over 30 years old.
6) Realistic goals and expectations.
A patient does not have to meet all six criteria for transplantation by Dr. Stough. Most patients can expect very great
results and meet only 2 or 3 of the above criteria. However, many individuals desiring hair replacement simply have not
experienced enough baldness to warrant the procedure. We provide hundreds of free consultations per year and it is not unusual
for Dr. Stough to advise candidates to wait 1-2 years before having a procedure. Interested clients from around the United
States and abroad often send a photographs of their hair and scalp before coming in for a meeting.
A Long-term Philosophy
"A THING OF BEAUTY IS A JOY FOR EVER ITS LOVELINESS INCREASES; IT WILL NEVER PASS INTO NOTHINGNESS."
- John Keats
Dr. Stough believes in long-term results and chooses a technique only if it demonstrates a benefit for the
patient in both the short-term (0-5 years) and the long-term (5-30+ years). Many techniques may produce wonderful before
and after photographs but may deteriorate with time. Dr. Stough's Feathering Zone Technique has demonstrated excellent
results over time and fits our philosophy of looking toward the future.
In this revolutionary technique, hundreds or thousands, of individual hair follicles are transplanted in the balding area.
No visible scars, no bumps, no abrupt hairlines and no evidence of surgery.
Dr. Stough believes "If you can tell it's a transplant, it's not a good one." Our patients look good and are very, very happy.
Our results are so natural some of ourpatients never tell their spouse or even their hairdresser!
A single session involves a range of grafts from 700 to 2,000 in a given session. Most men need at least two sessions but many
accomplish significant coverage from only one session. Generally, the degree of baldness and density of hair will determine the
need for the number of grafts necessary per session.
Hair loss can be annoying and, for some, very distressing. While many people are uncomfortable with their hair loss, doing
something to correct the loss can be even more distressing! Today's techniques offer completely natural results and a very
pleasing alternative to hair loss.
